本文嘗試從一九四九年「一個中國」分裂之後，在國共超過半世紀的隔海軍事對峙以及美蘇冷戰的時空背景之中，分析金門與馬祖傳統聚落如何受到國家力量的介入，逐步轉化成為戰鬥基地。從地景與生活型態的改變上，指認出軍事的干預如何形塑空間與社會。進一步論述戰地金馬的保存做為世界文化遺產的歷史意義與價值。
This article tries to analyze after 1949 - when a united ‘one China’ has separated- how the traditional dwellings of Jin Men and Ma Zhu were influenced by the power of country and gradually turn into military bases under the Cold War and more than fifty year’s “ROC vs. PRC” military confrontation across Taiwan Strait. In this article, I will try to point out how military power forms the space and society of local people, reflecting on the landscape and lifestyle there. Furthermore, the historical meaning and value of preserving the battlefield Jin Men and Ma Chu as World Heritage will be discussed.
軍事佈署的金馬雖然保障了台灣安全，然而數十年的戰地政務管制，卻也嚴重地限制地方人民的權利，從日常生活到建築營造等事務，無不受到國家直接的監控和規訓（Discipline）。金馬不僅是「反共復國」的前哨基地以及當年美國反共圍堵政策的亞洲第一島鏈，它與德國柏林圍牆、朝鮮板門店、越南古芝坑道等都是冷戰時期軍事衝突空間化的具體表徵。尤其是兩岸長年隔海對峙卻不交戰的敵對狀態，更弔詭地成為世界戰爭史上絕無僅有的奇幻地景，值得保存。
Although the military deployment has ensured the safety of Taiwan, the decade-long military control also seriously confined local people’s rights. Everything from daily life to building construction was under direct monitor and discipline of government authority. Jin Men and Ma Zhu were not only the front base of the “anti-communism and revive China” policy, but also the first Asian island chain in the anti-communism policy of the US. They are concrete, spatial symbols of the military confrontation during the Cold War, just like Berlin Wall in Germany, Panmunjom in Korea, Cu Chi tunnel in Vietnam. Particularly the long confrontation state across the strait with no fighting, has peculiarly become a unique landscape in the world history of war worthy of preservation.
二○○三年，台灣將金馬戰地文化景觀列為未來申請世界文化遺產登錄的潛力點之一。近年來，過去這些充滿神秘色彩，已失去原本功能的軍事建築，反而變成在地觀光資源吸引遊客，一種特殊時空下所創造的戰爭地景。
In 2003, Taiwan’s government has listed Jin Men and Ma Zhu’s military culture and landscapes as a potential candidate of applying for World Heritage. In recent years, these military buildings, once full of mysterious colors, has lost their original functions and turn to be local touring resources to attract tourists, a kind of war landscapes created under special time frame.
